An unbeaten world champion has opened the door to a future clash with Deontay Wilder.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ made his highly-anticipated return to the ring on Saturday night when he defeated Derek ‘War’ Chisora by split decision at the conclusion of their non-title showdown at the O2 Arena in London.
Despite turning 40-years-old back in October, Wilder has reiterated his desire to fight for the world heavyweight championship once again, six years on from his reign as the WBC heavyweight champion.
One fighter that could potentially gift Wilder an opportunity at becoming a world heavyweight champion once again is Britain’s Fabio Wardley, who currently holds the WBO heavyweight title.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Wardley revealed that he has actually targeted a showdown with Wilder in the past, as he claims he would be open to facing ‘The Bronze Bomber’ in America.
“He was one that was on the list before Daniel. Both him and Zhilei Zhang funnily enough, were on the list before Daniel.
“One thing I haven’t done, I’ve ticked off a lot of milestones in my career but one thing I haven’t done is fought in America and done one of the big ones, whether that be at MSG, whether that be Las Vegas.
“And if I’m going to do that I need a big name to do it with and who bigger at the moment in terms of my division and in American than Deontay Wilder.”
Wardley is currently preparing to make the first defence of his WBO heavyweight title against countryman Daniel Dubois at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester on Saturday May 9.
