Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford are just several months away from their monumental clash.
It was revealed last week that the modern greats will lock horns on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo is set to make a defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship against the 37-year-old from Omaha, in what is his second reign as champion after he defeated William Scull in Riyadh last month.
Victory for Crawford would see the unbeaten American become the first fighter in male boxing history to win an undisputed championship in three divisions, but the 37-year-old is tasked with making the jump up in two weight classes to try and accomplish this feat.
Two-time light-welterweight champion Amir Khan, who remains the only fighter ever to face both Canelo and Crawford, has spoken out and had his say on what he believes the outcome will be when his former rivals meet later this year.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Khan breaks down what he believes are the strengths and weakness of both fighters, before going on to back Crawford to win ‘easily’.
“With Crawford, you’ve got skill, power, and good movement. And he’s very precise with his inches. He works with his inches.
Whereas with Canelo, I could hit him easier, where with Crawford, I couldn’t hit Crawford that easy. He was very hard, he was very elusive, he was very alert. He was alert to everything. But the thing is, the power Canelo has, nowhere near Crawford has any of that power.
So if Crawford doesn’t get caught with any of his hard shots, I think Crawford wins the fight easily.”
Khan was on the receiving end of stoppage defeats when he faced both Canelo and Crawford. He stepped up to middleweight to challenge the Mexican superstar for his WBC middleweight title in 2016, suffering a devastating 6th round knockout defeat.
He locked horns with ‘Bud’ several years later in an attempt to dethrone the American of his WBO welterweight title, falling short in a 6th round stoppage once again.
