A reigning world champion has made a shock claim about a sparring session with lightweight star Shakur Stevenson.

Stevenson currently reigns as the WBC lightweight champion, making several successful defences of his crown since he defeated Edwin De Los Santos back in November of 2023 to capture the vacant title.

He made the most recent defence against Mexico’s William Zepeda in New York City last month, defeating ‘Camaron’ via unanimous decision at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in what was arguably the best performance of his professional career.

Despite that impressive display, a world champion at 130lbs has had plenty to say about what happened when he shared the ring with Stevenson behind closed doors.

Speaking on the Cigar Talk Podcast, reigning WBC super-featherweight champion O’Shaquie Foster made a sensational claim about a previous sparring session that he had with Stevenson, where he says he forced the unbeaten lightweight champion to ‘run out of the gym’.

“Literally bro, we were sparring every day, I was going to the clubs, I was out there all night, his people know I was at some of their clubs coming in, sparring them. 5 in the morning, I mean 9 in the morning, I’m coming in at 5. Fast forward bro, that heat got on his ass, so you know how it’s hot down here, that humidity, it got belt to ass, he got ran out of the gym and this was a Friday, he ran out the ring, he didn’t want no more, I guess it got too hot.”

Foster – who said Stevenson returned another day with renewed motivation to spar – began his second reign as WBC champion at 130lbs last November when he defeated Robson Conceição via split decision in their rematch. The 31-year-old from Texas is being tipped to make a return to the ring before the end of the year, with rumours circulating that he could face fellow countryman Stephen Fulton Jr next.
