Three Weight World Champion Says Terence Crawford Will ‘Cook’ Canelo: “He Can Stop Him”

Three Weight World Champion Says Terence Crawford Will ‘Cook’ Canelo: “He Can Stop Him”

Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will meet in a monumental showdown this September.

The pound-for-pound stars will clash at an unconfirmed venue in the United States on Saturday September 13, although the mega-fight is expected to take place in Las Vegas.

Canelo will be making a defence of his undisputed world super-middleweight championship, which he reclaimed with a victory over former IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh on May 3.

‘Bud’ Crawford could become a three-division undisputed champion should he be victorious over the Mexican icon, but faces the huge task of making the move up to 168lbs having spent the majority of his tenure campaigning at welterweight.

Speaking to Fight Hype, unbeaten WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson was asked to have his say on the highly anticipated showdown.

“I think Bud’s gonna cook Canelo, I think he’s gonna cook him. I think you know Canelo’s a hell of a fighter but I think Bud just got all the tools to beat him.”

Stevenson even believes Crawford has what it takes to possibly stop Canelo.

“I think y’all make that something, in certain fights yeah, like if this was a Benavidez he’s actually a lot bigger than Bud so that would apply, but I feel like with Canelo he’s like physically kind of big but height wise, he’s kind of small so I don’t think so. I think it’s possible Bud stops him, I’m not saying it’s going to happen but I think it’s a possibility if Canelo gets out of line, Bud can crack too.”

Crawford’s most recent outing came against Israil Madrimov last August, who he defeated to capture the WBA super-welterweight title in his first bout at 154lbs.

He will need to jump up a further two weight classes ahead of his battle with Canelo, which many have described as the ‘biggest fight in boxing.’
