Despite now being well into his forties, Manny Pacquiao remains a big draw in the global boxing scene.

The legendary Filipino is one of the greatest fighters of his generation and the only man in the history of the sport to win titles in eight weight divisions.

He has fought a who’s who of talent over the last 20 years, including the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton and more.

Most recently, he was out back in July when he took on then WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, fighting to a draw, and has recently announced a professional rematch with Floyd Mayweather. Prior to that being signed, Pacquiao was understood to be in talks with WBA welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

Speaking to Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, Romero claims that Pacquiao’s team wanted too much money and ‘used his name’ for promotion.

“How many times did he call me out? He wasted my time, as well. He wanted more money cause he can’t sell any more. You can say whatever you want but the thing is, it was weird with Manny cause they were super adamant about making the fight but bro we tried and tried and tried and they didn’t want to do it, but they used my name over and over again. They all play big tough guy until it’s time to put a pen to the paper.”

Romero has now moved on and is in discussions with three-weight world champion Devin Haney for an all-American unification fight.
