Gervonta Davis has received an array of criticism following his performance against Lamont Roach Jr earlier this month.

The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland regained his WBA lightweight title after the fight was declared a split decision draw following 12 closely fought rounds at the Barclays Center in New York City.

Roach produced the performance of a lifetime against the unbeaten ‘Tank’, who sensationally took a knee during the ninth round although referee Steve Willis failed to call an official knockdown, much to the outrage of Roach’s fanbase who were left extremely disappointed.

It has been speculated that a rematch between the pair could take next, after it was revealed that both fighters have reportedly agreed to face each other in either May or June, although an official announcement is yet to be made.

In light of Davis’ underwhelming performance against Roach, an unbeaten world champion has now spoken out and claimed he can become the first fighter to defeat ‘Tank’ should he be given the opportunity to do so.

Speaking on the Come And Talk 2 Me podcast, WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis claimed that he has always been confident in himself to beat Davis following their spars together.

“I always felt that when I really do fight him, I think it’s gonna be like a little easier than what I project it to be, off of just me knowing me, and my size and what I bring to the table so I always felt like real confident with me getting in the ring with him.

Yeah [it’ll be easy]. It isn’t going to be a physical dog fight, it’s going to be a chess match and I’m just smarter than him. If my confidence was at a 9 before the Roach fight it’s still at a 9.”

‘The Businessman’ captured the WBO lightweight title after he emphatically stopped Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round of their bout on February 14, becoming a world champion in just his 14th contest as a professional.
