Cameron Dunkin prospect, Alexis Zazueta (8-0, 4 KOs) defeated Alberto Serna (2-4, 1 KO) of Mexico by TKO last night at the United Wireless Conference Center in Dodge City, KS. The featured undercard bout was presented by Empire Boxing Promotions.

Zazueta wasted no time, immediately mounting an aggressive attack on Serna at the sound of the first bell. Cutting off the ring, Zazueta quickly found his range and mixed up a combination of punches that had Serna in defensive mode.

The Southpaw style of Zazueta seemed to prevent Serna from mounting an attack, a hard left thrown by Zazueta followed by a blistering left to the body had Serna clearly hurt. It was evident that it was going to be a short night for Zazueta.

As round 1 continued, Zazueta continued mounting points with each punch thrown, Serna did the best he could and landed a few punches. A series of punches including a sharp uppercut dropped Serna for a count, the tough Mexican beat the count and continued to fight. Moments later, Zazueta landed another crushing left to the body of Serna that again dropped him for a count. Amazingly Serna beat the count and managed to finish out the round.

In round 2, the two warrior’s exchanged blows, Zazueta getting in the more clear and crisp shots. Serna was taking a beating, but still putting up a fight and just would not go away, Zazueta landed yet another left body shot that dropped Serna for the third time in the short fight. The action continued and Zazueta continued to rattle off punches at will, landing a barrage of punches before the referee would wisely stop the bout. The official time of the stoppage was .58 of round 2.

One can’t argue the heart of Alberto Serna, don’t let his record fool you. The kid has is a young fighter and is barely getting started, all of his losses have been to undefeated opponents. Serna is tough without a doubt, he could have easily quit after the first body shot he received in round 1, but stayed in there and continued to fight hurt.

With each fight, Alexis Zazueta continues to improve and the results were evident in his bout last night. His speed has improved and he seems more patient when he fights, it was noticed at the start of this fight as he analyzed Serna and quickly determined a range of attack. Although still a young fighter, Zazueta has great potential and knows the fights will only be tougher in the future, he is trained by Armando Lopez, who has brought out the best in Zazueta.

Alexis Zazueta is managed by Cameron Dunkin, we can only expect the competition to become more difficult for Zazueta, Dunkin has the vision when it comes to talent and has proven he can produce a champion or two.
