Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson remains a super fight that could be made in boxing.

Davis is the current WBA lightweight champion, having picked up wins over the likes of Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Rolly Romero and most recently Frank Martin during his career.

He was scheduled to make the latest defence of his belt against Lamont Roach in December, but the fight was postponed and now looks set to take place in early 2025.

As for Stevenson, he holds the WBC lightweight title after winning the vacant strap against Edwin De Los Santos last November, before a successful defence against Artem Harutyunyan in July.

The 27-year-old was due to defend against Joe Cordina on the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol card in October before a hand injury forced him out of the fight and required surgery.

It means that upon his return, Stevenson may now face William Zepeda instead, who is the current mandatory challenger with the WBC. He held onto that position with a split decision win over Tevin Farmer this month, surviving a shock knockdown in the process.

Zepeda has had his say on both ‘Tank’ and Shakur, revealing with little hesitation who he believes to be the better fighter of the two.

“The best 135lb fighter is Gervonta Davis. I want to face the best so I want to see if I’m capable of beating Gervonta Davis.”

Zepeda then explained why it would be tougher facing ‘Tank’ Davis than it would facing Stevenson.

“It’s definitely a more complicated fight against Gervonta than Shakur because of the different styles. There’s different styles for both of them.

“Against Shakur I would probably go in and try to attack him a bit more, as opposed to Tank I would need to watch out for what I’m throwing and not throw the same punches all the time because he’s someone that knows and studies.

“Not only is he good in the attack but he’s also going to counter, he knows exactly when to take those shots and then go for it, so its definitely going to be difficult.”

Stevenson has been absolutely clear that he intends to fight Zepeda on his return next year.
