Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang is keen to get back in the ring and show what he can do before age finally catches up with him.
Zhang has been involved ins some impressive battles down the years, including twice knocking out Joe Joyce, and in even quicker fashion the second time round than the first.
That saw him shoot up the ranks and become something of an avoided man, but Joseph Parker stepped up to the challenge back in 2024 and soundly beat him on points to relieve him of his WBO interim title.
After that, Zhang returned against Deontay Wilder and destroyed the once feared American champion and former WBC ruler inside five rounds.
That win saw him then get a fight for the WBC interim belt against German Agit Kabayel but, in something of a shock, he was topped inside the distance for the first time in his career despite scoring a knockdown of his own in the fifth round.
Speaking to Boxing News, ‘Big Bang’ outlined a bold list of men he would be keen to face to reassert himself at world level in the banner division.
“Daniel Dubois – he is a tough man in the ring and friendly outside, making him a super interesting opponent. Fabio Wardley – title holder. My team was approached his about this possibility for October 2025, But the fight was made with Parker instead. Tyson Fury – I’ve always wanted this fight. We almost made it happen back in ’23, before Joyce enacted his rematch clause.”
Dubois has been out for a while since his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk, so he will likely need a tune-up before any big fights, and the same goes for Fury, who is freshly out of his late retirement.
