Zhilei Zhang could be about to secure a big fight he has been craving.
Zhang is a towering Chinese heavyweight who has not fought since he was stopped by Agit Kabayel back in February last year.
He is now 42-years-old and has fought the likes of Deontay Wilder, who he knocked out inside five rounds in 2024, and Joseph Parker, who beat him on points, so he has a record of 27 wins from 31 fights.
He is now in the twilight of his career but still chasing star names and speaking to BoxingScene, Daniel Dubois’ manager Sam Jones confirmed his man is keen on the fight.
“There’s been talks to try and make Zhilei Zhang against Daniel Dubois, which Frank Warren has highlighted, so we’re actively trying to make that happen. We are actively now, with Frank Warren, trying to get Daniel back into the ring pretty soon. He’s ready, he’s back in the gym, and he’s raring to go. He’s ready to fight now.”
Dubois has been out of the ring since he was knocked out by Oleksandr Usyk last July, which was his first fight since he stopped Anthony Joshua in September 2024.
Zhang’s manager Terry Lane confirmed to Sky Sports earlier in January that his man is also up for this fight.
“Zhang absolutely wants the Dubois fight. It’s been on his wishlist for some time now. We’ve made Queensberry aware, and let’s hope we can get it done.”
If this one gets made, it would be a hugely entertaining fight given both men’s styles.
