Zhilei Zhang has manoeuvred his way into prime position as a top contender in the heavyweight division and has now been assessing some of his rivals ahead of the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.
Zhang has proven to be the very definition of a late bloomer. At 41 years of age, his stock is higher than it has ever been in the heavyweight division, despite a controversial loss to Fillip Hrgovic and one on points against Joseph Parker earlier this year last year.
In between that, he twice entered the ring with Joe Joyce, the former Olympic silver medalist who many thought was an unstoppable force, and managed to stop him out in impressive fashion both times.
Most recently he took on the notorious heavy hitter Deontay Wilder on June 1st as part of the Matchroom versus Queensberry showdown in Saudi Arabia and got another stoppage this time inside five rounds.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, he was asked if he saw any holes in the styles of either Fury or Usyk during their recent undisputed showdown.
“I think it was a perfect fight with perfect fighters. I don’t have anything to say about it. People always say Usyk can’t take a body shot but when you see Fury landing them on Usyk, he really made it through, so I only have good things to say about those fighters.”
As for the rematch, ‘Big Bang’ can only see one winner.
“Same result.”
