Zhilei Zhang is one of several fighters who has weighed in on the most recent retirement of Tyson Fury.

Fury has long sat at the top table of world boxing both in terms of his larger-than-life character but also his skills inside the squared circle.

The two-time heavyweight world champion has been involved in huge nights under the lights throughout his career, including wins over Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte and an epic trilogy with Deontay Wilder.

Despite Wilder being one of the division’s biggest ever punchers, Fury drew once and twice managed to knock out ‘The Bronze Bomber.’ Last year, he was served his first loss when challenging Oleksandr Usyk for undisputed honours and falling short on the cards.

The rematch again went in Usyk’s favour in December and Fury announced that he was walking away from the sport just a few weeks after.

Zhang has often called out Fury in the past and now may never get to fight the modern-day legend. Speaking to FightHype, he gave his views on fighters announcing they are hanging up their gloves.

“I think it’s a statement that happens pretty often in the sport boxing, You retire for a month or two then come back.”

He then specially addressed Fury’s announcement news, saying ‘he’ll come back.’

“Maybe he’s not feeling so well for a few days, he announces his retirement, then he’ll come back … [He has done it] so many times.”

The boxing world still holds out plenty of hope that indeed ‘The Gypsy King’ will do as he has done before and U-turn on this decision, if only so fans get to see what would be a huge fight between him and Anthony Joshua.

Meanwhile, Zhang is soon fighting Agit Kabayel for an interim WBC title and a win could lead him to a fight with either well-ranked contender Joshua or champion Usyk.
