Devin Haney gets the decision over Vasyl Lomachenko, but did the right fighter win?

Devin Haney was judged the winner over Vasyl Lomachenko Saturday night at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nv.

Scores were 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113.

Maxboxing saw Lomachenko winning the bout 115-113.

In round one, the bigger Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) fired several jabs. The stick is his best friend. Lomachenko bobbed and weaved. Haney worked the body. Southpaw Lomachenko fired a few lefts and flurried at the end of the stanza. 

Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) moved to his left and feinted in round two. Haney fired a right. A looping left landed. Haney scored to the body. Lomachenko fought back. He scored with a lead left. The intense chess match continued in round three. Lomachenko jabbed and faked a shot to the body. Haney ate two hard lefts. Lomachenko bounced and pounced. He missed a few punches but also scored. 

In round four, Haney,24, jabbed. Lomachenko returned the favor. Haney went to the body once again. Lomachenko fired a combination. He pressed forward. Lomachenko scored with a straight right hand. He was extra sharp. Haney scored to the body in round five. Lomachenko clipped Haney with a straight left – and seconds later, Lomachenko landed more blows. A jab also landed. Haney landed a shot to the ribs. 

Haney landed three body blows in round six. Lomachenko spun and scored with a left. Haney landed a right – Lomachenko a hard left. Haney ripped a counter. Lomachenko worked in and out in round seven. He landed a hard left that surprised Haney. Lomachenko worked the body. Haney landed a stiff right hand. A minute later, a check hook caught Lomachenko. 

In round eight, Lomachenko clipped Haney with a right. Lomachenko followed up with a combination. Haney landed, but so did Lomachenko. Haney landed a right to the body. Lomachenko scored with a right. 

Lomachenko fired a combination in round nine. Haney a check hook. Lomachenko scored with a quick left. Everything with these two guys was quick. Lomachenko pushed Haney into the ropes and worked. Both fighters landed.

In round 10, Lomachenko jabbed. Haney went downstairs but was on the receiving end of lefts and rights. Lomachenko angles were causing issues. Lomachenko scored with a big left in round 11. Haney looked hurt. Lomachenko opened up. Haney fought back but the much older Lomachenko was on a roll. 

Would the 12^th and final round decide the fight?

Haney came out punching. Lomachenko fired back. Haney scored – Lomachenko pushed Haney into the ropes. Haney scored with a big right. More body work bothered Lomachenko. Lomachenko scored with a glancing blow at the bell.

“I don’t want to talk about [the decision],” Lomachenko said. “All the people saw what happened today.”
