Deontay Wilder crushes Dominic Breazeale in opening round

Deontay Wilder’s walk to the ring was much longer as well as animated than the time it took for him to dispose of Dominic Breazeale than at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday night.

Shortly after a brief clinch was broken, the champion from Tuscaloosa threw a short left jab and then unleashed a crunching right hand which sent his opponent from Alhambra sprawling to the canvas with both arms flailing. As referee Harvey Dock reached the count of ten, Breazeale wasn’t able to make it t back to his feet in time. The official time was 2:17 of the first round.

“Everything just came out in me tonight,” said the triumphant Wilder. “There was a lot of animosity. I told Dominic at the end of the fight that I loved him and that I wanted him to go home to his family. I wish more of the world was like that, when we can fight in the ring and live to see another day.”

In regards to a rematch with Tyson Fury, he commented, “That rematch will happen. I know a lot of people are wanting that fight to happen, just like they want the fight with (Anthony) Joshua to happen. It may take all of us sitting down and squashing everything. I ask all of you fans to have patience. We want to make sure that we can get the best money we can get before we get into the ring and risk our lives.”
