Devin Haney wanted to knock out George Kambosos Saturday night at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Aus. Haney had to settle for another dominant win, retaining his IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO world titles.

 

Scores were 119-109 and 118-110 twice for Haney

 

Maxboxing scored the bout 119-109 for Haney.  

 

“He’s a warrior. I tip my hat to him and all the Australian fans," said Haney. 

Kambosos, using more jittery movement, came out aggressively. Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) jabbed. Kambosos (20-2, 10 KOs) bobbed and landed an uppercut and right hand at the bell. Kambosos dug to the body in round two. Haney popped home two left hands. 

 

Haney,23, connected with a left hook in round three. 

 

Kambosos landed a sweeping left. A Haney one-two landed and followed up with several more rights. 

Haney snapped jabs in round four. Kambosos fired rights that Haney blocked. Haney let fly with left hooks. 

Haney came out punching in round five. 

 

Kambosos,29, scored with a left. Haney scored with a combination to the chin of the former champion. Haney’s jab was on point.

 

In round six, Haney, the boxer, continued to be the aggressor. 

 

A snapping left hook clipped Kambosos. The Aussie hero was falling behind by a substantial margin. 

 

Haney landed a sweet lead right hand. Kambosos tried to fire himself up before round seven. 

 

From Oakland, CA, Haney caught an onrushing Kambosos with lefts and two lead right hands. He knocked Kambosos back a step with a right. And a left. Both fights landed hooks. Kambosos connected with his best punch, a right near the end of the round. 

 

In round nine, Kambosos looked to build off his late success in the last round, but it wasn’t to be. 

 

Both fighters were bleeding from cuts. 

 

Kambosos connected with a big right. Haney fought back – landing a combination. Close round. Haney clocked Kambosos with hard shots in round 10. Kambosos, bleeding profusely, looked hurt. He staggered around the ring but still fought back. 

 

Haney landed lefts and rights in round 11. Kambosos dug to the body, and Haney countered with a left hook. 

 

The gutsy Kambosos did catch Haney later in the round.

 

Entering the 12th and final round, Haney had to be way ahead. Kambosos came out looking to do something dramatic. Didn’t happen.

 

Haney scored with a double jab. Kambosos walked into rights.
