The long-awaited super fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has still not been announced, and Dave Allen is now concerned it won’t happen at all.
There have been many points in recent times when it seemed as though these two British heavyweights would finally sign to face one another. Both are at very similar stages in their careers as they fast approach forty years old.
Neither of them has a world title despite previously being two-time belt holders, and both have had a couple of warm-up fights to get them back into a groove after a defeat in the case of Joshua, and a year-long layoff in the case of Fury.
Neither man looked hugely convincing in either contest, which for many is another sign that the timing is right for them to finally face off in the squared circle.
Speaking to iFL TV, Allen gave his feelings on the long-running saga.
“I don’t think Joshua Fury will happen, I’ve always said that. I’m going to stick by that. Until we see them in the ring, until the first bell goes, I’m going to stick to that.”
Fury has already suggested he has moved on from what would be a huge fight by calling out Oleksandr Usyk for a trilogy fight, despite having already lost twice to the former two-time undisputed champion, but it appears the focus is back on Joshua for now.
One stumbling block has been the location: Team Joshua wanted to fight in the UK, while the broadcaster initially preferred New York City, though Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium has emerged as the new frontrunner recently.
