Dave Allen has been looking ahead to when he will walk away from boxing, ahead of his next fight this evening in Ireland.
Heavyweight Allen has fought 38 times so far, and though he has never been world champion, he has remained a favourite amongst British Fight fans.
Not only is he straight-talking and down to earth, but he has never shied away from a challenge and has shared the ring with the likes of Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz, David Price and the recently crowned IBF champion Filip Hrgovic.
Tonight he returns to action against Thomas Carty on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s final ever fight against Flora Pili at Croke Park in Dublin.
Ahead of that, speaking to DAZN, ‘The White Rhino’ admitted he thinks he will be retired in two fights’ time.
“Yeah, I want to get to 40 and that will do me. That was always the plan. The Carty fight wasn’t the plan, then it became the plan and now we’re here. So yeah, 40 and out. Carty and one more, yeah.”
He was asked if being in that mindset might run him in trouble at this late stage of his career.
“Not really no. because I am a bit of a scrapper, from birth, well, I had my first fight aged four. I don’t need an excuse. At a level I’d get beat because I’m not good enough, but I’m a scrapper so I’ll turn up and have a go, yeah.”
Carty is a hard-hitter from Ireland who is 11-1 with nine knockouts and is seeking his first big win on a major card, so he will likely prove a tough test for Allen if he is not at his best.
