Tony Bellew Defends Former Heavyweight Star After New Criticism: “Show Some Respect”

Tony Bellew believes a former heavyweight has not been shown the respect he deserves.

Former world champion Bellew has remained close to the sport since retiring and always speaks honestly about where he believes fighters are at, and where they belong in the bigger picture.

Bellew took umbrage at a post on X that claimed ‘Johnny Fisher is done’ and that his career is following a similar path to that of his fellow Liverpudlian David Price after his performance at the weekend.

“The next David Price?? Are you serious! An Olympic bronze medalist! A man who was wiping out everybody until a dirty drug cheat beat him! British, Commonwealth Champion! Are you really comparing Johnny Fisher to David Price?

Have you forgot what David Price done to Dave Allen and what Dave Allen done to Johnny Fisher! Do us a favour mate and learn the game or at least study it before making comparisons like this!

David Price was and always will be a top tier heavyweight who on his night could clean out anybody! Show some respect.. 😔”

Price is a former British and Commonwealth champion, having blasted through domestic level before coming up short when competing on the world stage.

Fisher beat Michael Pirotton with a majority decision in a heavyweight brawl across 10 rounds as he continues to rebuild after losing by KO to Dave Allen in 2025, despite winning their first match. Allen also fought Price in July 2019 at The O2 Arena and was stopped in the 11th round after taking plenty of punishment.

Fisher is now being linked with a fight with Dillian Whyte, which would be a step up but still leaves him some way off the levels Price achieved in his career.
