Conor Benn is taking time out following his knockout loss to Ryan Garcia.
Benn stepped up to the world level for the first time earlier in September when he took on the WBC welterweight ruler Garcia.
His first challenge was to make the 147lb limit for the first time since 2022, and he did so with a pound to spare. As soon as he got into the ring, he started throwing aggressive shots but was soon timed by Garcia.
When the second round came around, Garcia landed a big right that sent Benn to the canvas. He beat the count and carried on but took an unanswered flurry of punches and the referee stepped in to save him from further damage.
Speaking to Ring Magazine, his trainer Tony Sims was asked if he thinks Benn will continue to fight.
“He won’t want to go out like that, obviously. I think he will [come back.] I think he needs to have a bit of a rest maybe regroup and see what he’s going to do next.
“We’d have to sit down and discuss it, see where he’s at. Obviously, when he fought the second Eubank fight, he looked good at 160. He’s a small 160, so I don’t know really. We’d have to sit down and wait and see.”
He was then asked if the trilogy with Eubank was an option.
“I don’t even really know if Conor would be up for the fight really. It isn’t something we’ve discussed at the moment.”
Benn lost the first fight as Eubank used his size and experience to contain the aggressive of Benn, while the rematch went the other way, although many suspect Eubank was weight-drained for the contest, which is why the door is open to a potential rubber match.
