Eddie Hearn has begun building up a potential trilogy fight between long-time rivals Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
These two sons of British greats have long been heated rivals. Their first fight was delayed after Benn failed a drug test and eventually took place more than two years after a back-and-forth outside the ring.
Once the first bell went, Eubank’s natural size and experience saw him take a straightforward points win, though that result was reversed in the rematch last November when he appeared weight-drained and unable to box at his best.
Eubank has not fought since then, while Benn beat Regis Prograis in April and was knocked out inside two rounds earlier this month when he stepped up to face Ryan Garcia in his first world title fight down at 147lbs.
In a new interview with Matchroom Boxing, Hearn suggested what he would do differently if he were representing Eubank this time.
“Because of the job that I did with Conor Benn, I made sure that Conor Benn had a huge edge in [the Chris Eubank Jr. fights] and I did it fairly; I did it contractually and I spun the other team around my finger because that’s what I do to make sure my guy has the edge in that fight.
“If I’m on Team Eubank, that ain’t happening on my watch. The fight happens at 168 with no rehydration clause and it’s a fair playing field because it probably wasn’t a fair playing field [last time].”
Benn’s last fight at 147 was his first there since 2022 and set to be his last. The man himself has said he would immediately move up and it looks likely that a fight with Eubank at either 160lbs or 168lbs is now the biggest fight and most lucrative fight out there for him.
