The British Boxing Board of Control has revealed that UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) will launch an investigation into the adverse finding of Conor Benn for Clomifene, during training camp for the postponed fight with Chris Eubank Jr.

The bout, one of the most hyped events of the year, was set for October 8 before being finally canned during fight week after news broke that Benn had been found to have a banned substance in his system.

Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) has since protested his innocence, insisting that he hopes the “apology” he receives is “louder than the disrespect” aimed at him to date in the wake of the cancellation of the show that was set to take place at the O2 Arena in London, exclusively live on DAZN Pay-Per-View in the UK & Ireland and DAZN worldwide.

The fighter, 26, tested positive under the auspices of the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) for trace amounts of the banned fertility drug clomifene, which can elevate testosterone levels in men.

“Following the British Boxing Board of Control Limited’s decision on 4th October 2022 to prohibit the contest between Chris Eubank Jnr. and Conor Benn that was scheduled to take place on 8th October 2022, the Board is aware that it has been widely reported in the press that an ‘A’ sample provided by Mr. Benn to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association tested positive for a prohibited substance,” read a statement released by the BBBofC on Friday afternoon.

But because he has not failed a test conducted by UKAD, which is the drug control agency affiliated with the Board of Control, ‘The Destroyer’ cannot be suspended by the Cardiff-based governing body of British boxing.

“UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has launched an investigation in relation to Mr. Benn and the Board is in communication with UKAD in relation to that investigation. The Board will release further details in relation to this matter, as and when appropriate.”

Eddie Hearn, the Matchroom head honcho who promotes Benn, said earlier this week that it won’t be long before the fighter will release a statement regarding the fiasco in order to attempt to clear his name.
