Conor Benn Targeted For All British Welterweight Fight By New Champion

Conor Benn is now in the sights of a newly crowned welterweight champion.

Been has had two of the best results of his career in his last two outings. First, back in November last year, he got revenge on his long-time family rival Chris Eubank Jr by beating him via unanimous decision in their rematch.

He then stayed at 160lbs and took on former champion Regis Prograis and again looked good in a dominating points win that sent Prograis into retirement.

Since then he has been vocal about his ambitions to fight for his maiden world title in the welterweight division and has often named Ryan Garcia as the man he wants to face.

Garcia is the WBC champion and has shown interest in a fight with Benn out in the United States, but has yet to confirm anything.

In the meantime, Brit Jack Catterall put on one of the displays of his last month in Egypt when he beat Shakhram Giyasov via unanimous decision to claim the vacant WBA ‘regular’ welterweight strap.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he admitted he would most like to fight Rolly Romero for the full WBA title, but if not, reeled off some other names he would challenge himself aghast, including Benn.

“I like the winner of [Lewis] Crocker vs Liam Paro. Conor Benn, Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero – I’d fight all of them whenever.”

Right now, a shot at ‘King Ry’ will likely remain Benn’s number one target, and it is expected that it will happen in Las Vegas, possibly on September 12.
