Oscar De La Hoya Names Possible Next Fight For Gervonta Davis: “Let’s Go”

Oscar De La Hoya has revealed who he believes could face Gervonta Davis ahead of his long-awaited return to the ring.

Davis has been out of action since March of last year when he fought to a controversial majority draw against countryman Lamont Roach Jr at the Barclays Center in New York City.

‘Tank’ took a knee during the ninth round of the bout but referee Steve Willis failed to rule this as an official knockdown, prompting outrage from Roach’s team who believed this was the incorrect decision.

‘The 31-year-old from Baltimore has been at the centre of a number of legal issues since his clash with ‘The Reaper’ but it has been reported that he will make his much-anticipated comeback before the end of the year.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, legendary fighter-turned-promoter De La Hoya revealed that Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield is one of the fighters that could welcome Davis back to the sport this year, as he claims talks for a potential showdown will be happening ‘very soon’.

“There will be real talks happening very soon. If Kid Austin wants to go after Tank next, then me as a promoter is what I have to do and get him, right. As a promoter, I still feel that I would give him one more fight and then go after Tank. But if he wants it right away, let’s go.”

Schofield, who is widely considered to be one of the sport’s future superstars, remains unbeaten in 19 bouts since making his professional debut back in October of 2020.

The 23-year-old from New Jersey produced the best win of his career to date last June when he stopped former IBF world super-featherweight champion Tevin Farmer in the opening round of their clash in California.
