Carl Froch rarely backed down from a challenge but has admitted that one man might have caused him a few difficult problems to solve.
Nottingham man Froch held multiple super-middleweight championships, including the WBC, IBF and WBA titles. He had plenty of epic battles with the likes of Mikkel Kessler, whom he fought twice; Jermain Taylor, whom he knocked out in the final seconds after being down on the cards, and also beat the likes of Glen Johnson, Jean Pascal, Lucian Bute and Andre Dirrell.
He was famously knocked down hard against George Groves in the first of their two fights. Although he went on to win via controversial stoppage, he ended the second fight with the best one-punch KO of his career before having up his gloves in 2014.
Speaking on his Froch on Fighting channel on YouTube, ‘The Cobra’ admitted a certain legendary Kazakh middleweight champion would have been a hard night’s work.
“I was speaking to Rob McCracken earlier, and he reckons Gennady Golovkin would have been a tough fight. I don’t think he was big enough but he was a big puncher. I don’t think I can be knocked out.”
‘GGG’ competed from 2006 to 2022 and was a twice unified champion who held multiple middleweight world titles. He made a record equalling 20 defences of his titles and lost only twice in 45 fights, both times to ‘Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, although many fans think he deserved to win at least one of those.
