Carl Froch Considers Exhibition With Former Opponent

British boxing legend Carl Froch is said to be considering an exhibition clash with a former rival of his as he edges closer towards making a return to the ring.

‘The Cobra’ announced his retirement from professional boxing back in July of 2015, just over one year after he produced a dramatic eighth round stoppage win over fierce rival George Groves at Wembley Stadium in London.

Despite being away from the sport for over a decade, Froch has left the door open for a comeback over the last few years and has reportedly come close to finalising a deal to face John Fury, the father of two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Speaking on ALL THE SMOKE FIGHT, Froch discussed the possibility of facing former rival Andre Ward in an exhibition clash, 15 years on from their showdown.

“Would you have an exhibition with The Cobra? Would you? Oh really. See how my face has changed? I’m not laughing now. An exhibition fight with you? I’ve been retired 12 years in May. Yeah, it’s four years longer than eight though ain’t it? How much do you weigh? I’m about 190. So what would we do it at? What weight would you say? Where’s it happening?”

Ward got the better of Froch when they met at the iconic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City back in December of 2011, defeating ‘The Cobra’ by unanimous decision to unify the WBC and WBA world super-middleweight titles and cement his status as the best 168lb fighter of his generation.

Ward would go on to announce his retirement after he defeated Sergey Kovalev for the second time in the summer of 2017, walking away from the sport with an unbeaten record of 32-0 to his name.
