For now, the much-talked-about showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury remains on and talk has turned to drug testing ahead of the contest.
Although this fight between these two British heavyweights has been confirmed for December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, there have since been reports it could yet fall through.
Both men are former unified world champions and the WBA announced their strap would be on the line for the fight, should it go ahead.
Zuffa Boxing and UFC man Dana White has said, when asked, that he was unsure if the press conference to announce the contest would go ahead, and Eddie Hearn has since revealed that it could be cancelled for various reasons.
One issue is that ‘AJ’ insists White must not be involved in the fight in any way, while the man himself has claimed he will be.
Speaking to Playbook Boxing, the subject of drug testing for the fight was brought up and Fury’s manager Spencer Brown insisted Fury is already signed up.
“We are enrolled in VADA, just to confirm that.”
It was then put to him by Spencer Oliver that Fury said he would enrol in VADA testing once the fight was announced, but Brown countered that.
“He’s done that earlier. In our contract we had more time but he’s enrolled. We’ve done everything we were asked to do, everything.”
It was believed that the drug testing issue was one of the reasons why the press conference may not have gone ahead, but with testing now seemingly secured, it is likely to go ahead now.
