Eddie Hearn has provided the latest news on negotiations between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua for their much-anticipated heavyweight showdown.
This fight has been one the British public has been keen to see for as long as a decade. Both Joshua and Fury are former champions who ruled over the division with sustained success before both succumbing to the skills of two-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.
With both men left beltless, and both having rebuilt recently with wins, it was thought the path had been cleared for them to sign a contract and announce a fight date late this year.
However negations have stalled over the location, with Fury happy to fight in the US, but Joshua preferring to keep it in the UK.
Speaking to Boxing Scene, Hearn has now given the latest update.
“We’re all moving forward amicably. We don’t want to do the fight in the US, but we also understand it has to work for everybody and at the same time, we’re basically being told we only want to do the fight in the US, which we don’t agree with, we don’t understand.
“We’ve been banging our head against the wall for two months. Like I said, we’ve set out our position, mainly in concern to the tax situation that will deplete his net purse by going to America, which can be rectified, and I think they’re happy to do that. There are no other abnormal requests; it’s up to them.”
He was then asked if he was confident the fight will actually happen.
“I think so but our dream and our hope is that they turn around and say ‘this is too messy, we’ll do it in Wembley.'”
Joshua and Fury are both fast approaching forty and have shown vulnerabilities in recent fights, so time is very much against them and fans will hope that plays into the fight being signed sooner rather than later, while many still view it as a 50/50.
