Eddie Hearn has been behind some of the biggest fights in boxing over the last 15-plus years, but there will always be more to make.
Hearn has very much helped to shape the sport and bring it back to the big time by working with global stars such as Anthony Joshua, whom he guided to unified world heavyweight titles, as well the likes of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and the recently retired Katie Taylor.
There have been plenty of huge domestic dust-ups along the way too, from Tony Bellew versus David Haye to Carl Froch versus George Groves.
Hearn has increasingly worked with US fighters in more recent years but has also seen competition arrive in the form of Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, who poached one of his long-term talents, Conor Benn, at the start of the year.
Speaking to Fight Your Corner, Hearn was asked which one fight he would most like to see right now and gave one clear answer.
“My dream fight right now is Bam vs Inoue. Number one versus number two.”
‘Bam’ is American Jesse Rodriguez, who has held multiple world championships in three weight classes – flyweight, super flyweight and bantamweight, where he is currently the WBA ruler, having knocked out Antonio Vargas in his last fight in June.
Inoue is the Japanese ‘Monster’ who has also held multiple world championships in four weight classes, and is one of only three male boxers to become undisputed in two weight classes in the four-belt era.
He has knocked out 27 of the 33 men he has beaten and has not yet lost inside the squared circle. He currently holds the undisputed bantamweight belts, so a fight with Rodriguez, who is also considered a big puncher, would be between two of the best active fighters putting plenty of the line.
