Moses Itauma is one of the brightest prospects in the heavyweight division, but his chin has not yet been tested.
Itauma is just 21 years old and has claimed knockout wins over Mariusz Wach, Demsey McKean, Mike Balogun, Dillian Whyte and most recently Jermain Franklin, with only Franklin lasting longer than the second round.
He now has 12 KO wins out of 14 and has not been beyond the sixth round. Next up, he takes on Filip Hrgovic later this month in what will be his biggest test yet.
Speaking to Playbook Boxing ahead of that, boxing manager Spencer Brown claimed Itauma’s chin is nothing to worry about after watching him up close and personal in spars.
“There’s only one thing people are concerned about and that’s his chin. Well I’ve seen him hit on the chin, flush, from a couple of the best heavyweights around, and it didn’t have a lot of effect.
“They were sparring gloves, they were bigger gloves, but technically, he’s very good. He’s got a great boxing mind. Personality, brilliant. Gentleman. Never says a wrong word. Thinks about what he says, very clever kid, very introverted, he doesn’t go out and shout, maybe he needs to a bit.”
Upcoming Itauma opponent Hrgovic is a big puncher who stopped Dave Allen in his last fight and has lost only once, to Daniel Dubois, across 20 fights, with 15 wins coming via stoppage.
