Former world champion turned pundit Johnny Nelson has some advice for Anthony Joshua about the location of his fight with Tyson Fury.
These two heavyweights were expected to sign to fight each other shortly after they both had outings in July.
Joshua had a terrible start against Kristian Prenga when he was put down twice in the first round but gathered himself and delivered a crushing knockout in the second.
The night before, Fury laboured for several rounds against the veteran Mariusz Wach before the Pole eventually retired on his stool.
With both men a similar age, and at a similar stage in their careers with no belts to protect, fans hoped that the path to a legacy-defining showdown had been cleared.
However, the location of the fight has proven a stumbling block, with the proposed broadcaster and promoter both wanting a New York venue, and Joshua and his team preferring the fight to be on UK shores.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Nelson gave his view on the matter.
“I think Anthony Joshua and [his promotional team] Matchroom Boxing have every reason to stand their ground. Firstly, because you look at Anthony Joshua’s last performance; that doesn’t fill you with confidence. Secondly, because they’ve signed a contract and so, if they’re going to embark on this fight, they’re going to say: ‘This is what we asked for; if you don’t want to do it, that’s a you problem’.”
Fury has claimed he has now moved on and recently called out Oleksandr Uysk for a third fight, having already lost twice to the former two-time undisputed ruler, while Joshua and his team have so far remained quiet.
