Anthony Joshua has made his final decision on where he wants to fight Tyson Fury.
The back and forth between these two celebrated British heavyweights has gone on for a decade. Each man has taunted the other at various stages of their overlapping careers, either about defeats they had suffered or an unwillingness to sign up to fight one another.
Both are two-time former champions, though neither has a belt right now, having both lost, on two separate occasions, to Oleksandr Usyk between 2021 and 2024.
Right now they have both returned to action and had a couple of winnable rebuild fights, which meant many assumed the stage was perfectly set for them to clash later this year.
However, since their last outings in July, there has been a constant back and forth about where exactly they will fight, with Joshua and his team pushing for the UK, and Fury keener on the US.
The added complication is that broadcaster Netflix and promoter Turki Alalshikh also have a say as they want to maximise eyeballs and revenue for the fight.
Speaking to iFL TV, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has now relayed his man’s latest thoughts on the matter.
“It’s kind of just made ‘AJ’ go, ‘ Alright, you know what, you want me to make a decision. I’ve made a decision. Honour your contract.’ That’s it. You’re not going to put words in my mouth but right now ‘AJ’ has just gone you’ll fight anywhere yeah? OK, fight where we signed to fight. UK. I’m standing firm on the UK.”
It seems as though the impasse will continue as yesterday Fury posted a mock-up fight poster suggesting again the fight should take place in the United States.
