Anthony Joshua Set To Return To Old Trainer For Tyson Fury Fight

Anthony Joshua is making sure everything is in place to give him the best possible shot at beating Tyson Fury, including reuniting with one of his old trainers.

Joshua spent the first part of his career training with Rob McCracken, who he also worked with in the amateur ranks as part of Team GB during the London Olympics when he won a Gold medal.

However, following his loss on points to Oleksandr Usyk back in 2021, Joshua decided to move on and worked with Robert Garcia for the rematch, though the result went the same way.

After that, Joshua made another change and brought in Derrick James, and after that it was Ben Davison who stepped up and got Joshua back to winning ways against Otto Wallin, but then came a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois for the IBF title in September 2024, and Joshua again moved on.

Late last year, he spent time training with Oleksandr Usyk for his win over Jake Paul, and then again this year for his win over Kristian Prenga, but speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, his promoter Eddie Hearn admitted Joshua is likely to include Davison for the fight with Fury.

“I think in some capacity he will stay close to them. He’s been in the UK for some time. Even when Ben wasn’t his principal trainer, he was working with him, talking all the time, and I think he respects Ben a lot.

“There is probably a feeling Ben Davison knows Tyson Fury extremely well, for me he is one of the best trainers in the world. I don’t know ‘AJ’s final decision on where he is going to locate his training camp but Ben Davison will definitely be involved in that process.”

Although the location has yet to be announced, Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is now the frontrunner for the fight sometime in December.
