The legendary Erik Morales has been asked for his view on the upcoming rematch between long-time rivals Floyd Mayweather and his former opponent Manny Pacquiao.
The first fight between these two boxing legends took place in May 2015, which, at the time, was already too late according to many fans and pundits who thought both men were past their best.
Mayweather is a five-division world champion and at the time was the WBA and WBC welterweight king, while eight-division ruler ‘The Pacman’ was the WBO welterweight belt holder.
The fight went the full 12 rounds, with ‘TBE’ largely controlling the pace and distance and taking a wide points win, after which Pacquiao claimed to have had a shoulder injury.
After that, Mayweather fought just twice more, beating both Andre Berto and Conor McGregor to retire undefeated after 50 contests.
Pacquaio has continued to fight, losing to Jeff Horn and Yordenis Ugas but beating the likes of Keith Thurman and, most recently, drew with Mario Barrios in July 2025. He is now 47 years of age, while Mayweather is 49.
Speaking to FigthHubTV, Morales – who lost to Pacquiao in 2005 and twice in 2006 – wasn’t sure who would be in the best shape going into the fight, but pointed out ‘we’re too old to fight.’
“I think we’re too old to fight, but it’s a fight. Hey, it’s going to be interesting, I don’t know who will arrive the least hurt, who is a little bit faster.”
Mayweather has recently claimed the upcoming match-up will be an exhibition rather than a professional bout, but Pacquiao continues to insist that it will actually be a fully-sanctioned contest, and it takes place on September 19 at The Sphere, Las Vegas, live on Netflix.
