Moses Itauma is already looking ahead to his ring return following his loss to Filip Hrgovic.
Itauma stepped up to world level for the first time back in August when he took on the Croatian, who had only previously lost once.
Although the 21-year-old star started well and won every round, he emptied his tank too early, and by the ninth round he had nothing left.
He was picked off and stopped by Hrgovic who had managed to survive the onslaught of the earlier rounds and came through victorious to lift the IBF heavyweight title.
Speaking to BoxNation, Warren outlined the planning in the coming months for Itauma.
“Well, he’s a young man, and he’s got a great head on his shoulders. As I said, we’re going to meet at the end of next week, we’re going to have that meeting and he’ll be fighting very early in the new year. He may be fighting in January I hope and he’ll be out and making up in 2027 for what he thinks he should have done in 2026.
“Having said that, Hrgovic done a brilliant job at the end of the day. He wants revenge; we’ll see if that happens next year. Moses in the meantime, he’s got to get back out there and show what he’s about and show the lessons he learnt from that fight, and there are lessons to learn from that fight.”
Itauma had not previously been beyond six rounds and has very little amateur background, so he will have learnt plenty about pacing himself in this contest.
He showed his typical fast hands and plenty of power, so the future remains bright, and Hrgovic has said that if he gets over the “humiliation” of this loss, he could go on to reign over the division for years.
