Roy Jones Jr Predicts Floyd Mayweather vs Sugar Ray Leonard

Former pound-for-pound superstar Roy Jones Jr once predicted the outcome of a fantasy clash between Sugar Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Both Leonard and Mayweather are credited with being two of the greatest fighters to have ever graced the sport, sparking a debate on who would have prevailed in a clash between the duo.

‘Money’ Mayweather won multiple world titles in five weight divisions during his career, defeating the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao prior to his retirement from professional boxing in 2017.

As for Leonard, the American icon played a key role in one of boxing’s greatest eras during the 1980s where he became one of the sports ‘Four Kings’ next to Roberto Duran, Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns.

Speaking on All The Smoke Fight, Roy Jones made no mistake in backing Leonard to defeat Mayweather as he claims the former undisputed welterweight champion does not get ‘enough credit’ from fans and analysts of the sport.

“To me, people don’t give him enough credit. People always say ‘well Floyd would beat Sugar.’ No baby, Floyd is not as nearly as mean as Sugar was.”

“How you gonna keep him off him? Sugar is a dog, people don’t [understand], just because his name is Sugar don’t mean nothing, Sugar is a dog, people don’t give him enough credit for that.”

Leonard produced a number of legacy-defining wins during his career but perhaps the greatest of them all came in 1980 when he forced Roberto Duran to quit in the 8th round of their monumental rematch in New Orleans.
