Likeable Birmingham super-welterweight Sam Eggington is right back in the mix. Following a shaky run of three defeats in six fights, Eggington is now on a four-fight win streak, the highlight of which was a two-round ’away’ KO of Italian Orlando Fiordigiglio in Florence in September, which brought both an IBF International belt and a top-five ranking with the sanctioning body. Despite six setbacks in total, the former European welter champ, still only 26 years old, is closing in on an unlikely world title shot.

"After winning the title the plan was to defend it as soon as possible," Eggington reveals in a video you can watch in full below. "I’ve never been in a position to have an argument for some sort of eliminator and I think I am now. I’ve just got to bide my time, but to defend the belt or some sort of eliminator would be great. If a decent fight came round for the European title, I’ll take that. I’ll take any fight so long as the deal’s fair."

The closest Sam has been to world level was losing to former WBO king Liam Smith in five exciting rounds just over a year ago. He names "Beefy" as the best he has fought.

"I’ve done a lot of sparring rounds with Liam Smith and he don’t waste nothing," Eggington explained. "He don’t throw a combination of four and hit you with two, he’ll definitely hit you with three of those punches. He don’t waste a lot, he don’t move in the ring without a reason for that movement, everything he does is for a reason. There’s been faster kids and definitely kids that have hit harder, but Liam Smith is just all-round good."
