Pound-for-pound star Shakur Stevenson has been accused of avoiding a potential showdown with a highly-rated unbeaten contender.
The undefeated 28-year-old from Newark made his much-anticipated return to the ring back in January when he put on a masterclass against Teofimo Lopez to capture the WBO world super-lightweight title at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Stevenson extended his unbeaten record to 25-0 with that impressive unanimous decision victory over ‘The Takeover’, becoming a four-weight world champion in the process.
As he prepares to finalize his next move, Stevenson has been accused of avoiding a clash with the highly-rated Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield, who was actually pencilled in to face the four-division world champion in February 2025 before their bout was cancelled at the last minute.
Speaking to Mill City Boxing, Schofield’s father and trainer, Floyd Sr, claims that Stevenson, along with Gervonta Davis, ‘would never’ fight his son in a surprising claim.
“No, Shakur would never fight Kid. Just like Tank would never fight Kid. I’ve been saying this to y’all. Y’all think that I’m bull cr**ping.
“If Shakur would have fought Kid, I don’t believe that, and I’m not saying Shakur’s responsible for anything, whoever didn’t want us in that ring would have went through those measures, I don’t believe if they didn’t fear something.
“Tank wouldn’t be going through measures if they didn’t see something, and I don’t blame them.”
Schofield, who remains unbeaten in 19 professional bouts, was last in action back in June of 2025 when he produced the best win of his career against former IBF world super-featherweight champion Tevin Farmer, who he stopped in the opening round of their clash at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
