Shakur Stevenson has had his say on a top-level clash between light heavyweight stars Dmitry Bivol and David Benavidez.
Bivol became undisputed champion after beating Artur Beterbiev last time out in February 2025. That was a rematch from the first fight in October 2024, when it was Beterbiev who won a tough 12-round decision.
He then vacated his WBC belt which is now in the possession of Benavidez, who has won all 31 of his fights, including beating Brit Anthony Yarde in November, the last time he was in the ring.
A fight between Bivol and Benavidez has been touted for some time, and speaking to CigarTalk Boxing, Stevenson was asked whether he would rather see Bivol fight Beterbiev for a third time or take on ‘The Monster.’
I’d rather see the Benavidez [fight]. Beterbiev deserve a trilogy, technically, because of the first fight. I thought that Bivol won the first fight. But, me, I think that Benavidez and Biovol is another fight that is one of the biggest and best fights in boxing.
“I don’t know if it’s the biggest but one of the best, competitive-wise.”
Stevenson then made his prediction for how he thinks the fight would go.
“I’m leaning towards Bivol, but I know that it will be tough with Benavidez with his pressure.”
Before any possible light heavyweight showdown can take place, Benavidez is first set to step up to cruiserweight next month when he challenges unified champion Gilberto Ramirez in an attempt to become a three-division world champion.
