Shakur Stevenson has named the one fighter that would tempt him into moving up in weight for a future showdown.
Stevenson was last in action back in January when he defeated countryman Teofimo Lopez via unanimous decision to capture the WBO world super-lightweight title at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The unbeaten 28-year-old from Newark outclassed Lopez over 12 rounds to become a four-division world champion and cement his status as one of the best active fighters on the planet.
As rumours begin to circulate about who Stevenson’s next opponent could be, the American superstar has expressed an interest in moving up in weight to face Britain’s Conor Benn next.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Stevenson claimed that Benn is ‘not on his level’ before admitting that he would be open to moving up in weight to face the Brit, as long as there is a rehydration clause in place.
“Everything that I said on the show came to fruition. I mean, I’ve been telling y’all I’m better than him. I’ve been telling y’all he’s not on my level. I’ve been telling y’all that his skills is not up to par with mine.
“So like I say, if he’s ready to fight, tell him stop going on social media and making up lies saying that I said “Oh I won’t fight at the weight class.” I said I will.
“I said with a rehydration clause because he did it to Eubank, that’s the only reason why I really said it for that reason. But like I said, he’s not on my level, I’ve been saying this and I will beat the holy s–t out of Conor Benn.”
Benn made his return to the ring on Saturday night when he defeated two-time world champion Regis Prograis by unanimous decision in what was a below-par performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
