Oleksandr Usyk seems to have changed direction in terms of the opponent for what could well be his last ever fight.
Usyk is one of the greatest to ever do it. He is a former Olympic Gold medalist from the London 2012 Games who turned professional and became the undisputed cruiserweight champion by 2018.
Six years after that he had cleaned out the heavyweight division and become undisputed not once but twice, beating the likes of Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois and Tyson Fury.
He has beaten Joshua, Fury and Dubois all twice without ever looking in too much trouble, though last time out back in May he seemed to be struggling with heavyweight kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven before finally getting a grip of the fight and winning late by KO, albeit many think the referee stepped in too soon.
Since then, he has vacated all of his belts and has said he wanted just one more contest, and that was expected to be with American former champion Deontay Wilder,
However, in a clip shared on his social media while striding backwards on a running machine, Usyk has now called out ‘The Gypsy King.’
“Hey, Tyson, I’m coming for you my brother, I’m coming for you. Ha ha ha.”
This is in response to Fury himself, who called out Usyk for a third fight following the long negotiations with Anthony Joshua for their fight. The issue has been whether the fight will take place in the UK or New York, and so far there has been no breakthrough.
Certainly, fans would rather Fury had the legacy-defining showdown with Joshua, rather than a trilogy with a man who has already soundly beaten him twice, and Usyk’s manager initially dismissed the idea.
