WBO champion Oscar Valdez victorious over Jason Sanchez in Reno

Top Rank Boxing, and ESPN, set up shop on Saturday night in Reno, Nevada as WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez was defending his title for the 6th time against Jason Sanchez at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

Main Event

Undefeated, WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (26-0, 20 KO’s) kept his title with a UD 12 over game and gutsy Jason Sanchez (14-1, 7 KO’s). The fight had lots of action throughout and the scores didn’t reflect how active and game Sanchez was. Scores were 117-110 and 118-109 x 2.

After the fight, Valdez indicated that he’d like to have one more fight at featherweight but only if he can remain strong as making 126-pounds is becoming a drain on him, after that look for a move to 130-pounds.

Under card

-Unbeaten 19-year-old lightweight Gabriel Flores Jr. (14-0, 6 KO’s) scored a UD 8 over Salvador Briceno (15-4, 9 KO’s). Flores won by scores of 79-73, 78-74, 78-74. The win was Flores’ 3rd bout of the year and 2nd in 5 weeks. Flores boxed well.

-130-pound Robson Conceicao (13-0, 6 KO’s) won a UD 8 over Carlos Ruiz (16-7-2, 6 KO’s).

-135-pounders Diego Elizondo (2-0-2, 0 KO’s) and Sergio Vega (2-0-1, 2 KO’s) came out even after with a D 4 in a good bout. Scores were 38-38 across the board.

-Light heavyweight Michael Seals (23-2, 17 KO’s) scored a KO 2 over Christopher Brooker (14-7, 5 KO’s).

-J.J. Mariano scored a TKO 4 over William Flenoy in a bout of debut fighters. Flenoy was dropped in round 3 and then said he couldn’t continue in round 4 due to an injured shoulder.
