Kid Galahad dominates Jazza Dickens, wins IBF featherweight title

It was brutal and bloody. Kid Galahad (28-1, 17 KOs) left little doubt who the better man was in his rematch with Jazza Dickens (30-4, 11 KOs) Saturday night at Matchroom HQ in Brentwood, Essex, England.

Galahad, who captured the IBF featherweight title, lost the first round on the judge’s scorecards. He didn’t lose another – systematically beating down and stopping the gutsy Dickens in round 11. It was the old case of whatever you can do, I can do better. Galahad dominated.

“I’ve been waiting 19 years for this and I’ve finally got it,” Galahad said. “People can think what they like but I am a full-time professional and I outboxed someone who I think will definitely be a future world champion.”

In a battle of heavyweights, Fabio Wardley stopped Nick Ward in the opening stanza to retain his English heavyweight title. Wardley (12-0, 11 KOs) started slow – absorbing heavy blows from Webb. He turned the tables just after the two-minute mark, whaling away until Webb (17-3,13 KOs) went down in the corner. The referee waved off the contest.

Tough man Alen Babic bludgeoned Mark Bennett in five rounds. Babic (8-0, 8 KOs) hit Bennett (7-2, 1 KO) with everything but the kitchen sink. Not a lot of skill was revealed but both fighters showed loads of guts.

Raw heavyweight Johnny Fisher (3-0, 3 KOs) patiently broke down and stopped Danny Whitaker in round two. Fisher was younger, faster and stronger. Whitaker (4-4, 0 Kos) was willing.

Returning to the UK for the first time since losing a close decision to Shannon Courtney, Ebanie Bridges (6-1, 3 KOs) stopped Bec Connolly (3-10, 0 KOs) in three rounds. Bridges (6-1, 3 KOs) floored Connolly (3-10, 0 KOs) with a combination in round three. Connolly got up, but after absorbing a hard right to the ear, the referee stopped the fight.
