Wehbee to headline Sydney card

By Paul Upham: Former OPBF featherweight champion Tony Wehbee attempts to get his career back on track against Mondesino Sebua from the Philippines, by headlining a seven bout card at the Eastern Suburbs Leagues Club in Sydney on August 31.

Wehbee, 29-7-1 (22), was the WBC No.2 contender until losing his title to Yoshiyuki “Panther” Yanagida by split decision over 12 hard rounds in December 2000.

A fourth round knockout win in New Zealand over Peter Warren was followed by a shocking first round knockout loss to Toshikage Kimura in Japan on July 1. At 30 years of age and now rated WBC No.25, Wehbee needs to regain his best form quickly to have any chance of achieving his dream of a world title.

Promoted by Mel Crook and Associates, the main support will feature Team Fenech’s 2000 Armenian Olympian Vic Darchinian vs. Celson Lapuz at junior bantamweight.

Also on the card is Simon Patterson vs. Ben Crow at heavyweight, Edgar Wymarra vs. Mick Kilmurry at super lightweight, Peter Petro vs. Leo Cristo at middleweight, Christian Taylor vs. Apa Nanai at heavyweight and Naoufel Ben Rabah vs. Damien Loader at super lightweight.

Tickets will be on sale at the door and are available in advance by telephone from Angelo Hyder on 0414 727772.
