Jesse Rodriguez has been targeted by a knockout artist who is yet to lose inside the ring.
‘Bam’ Rodriguez is 26 years old and is already a three-division world champion. He was unified down at flyweight and super flyweight before he moved up to bantamweight in June and knocked out Antonio Vargas inside six rounds to claim the WBA strap.
As for what’s next, he could remain in the bantamweight class and look to unify in a fight with WBO champion Christian Medina, though he has also been linked with a move up to super-bantamweight to challenge undisputed champion Naoya Inoue.
However, in a new video, trainer Robert Garcia claimed that Gervonta Davis told him he was keen for a shot at Rodriguez.
“One person you don’t even know, and that’s why it’s funny to me, you know who else he [Davis] called out but he didn’t put it on social media? He called out Bam. I’m telling you, guys. He called out Bam, and he said I’m going to fight you next and I’m going to talk to Al Haymon and make that fight happen.”
It is an unlikely call out given that Davis has fought as high as super lightweight. He did hold the WBA lightweight belt, which he retained in his last fight in March 2025 against Lamont Roach Jr but was recently made champion in recess after a defence against Floyd Schofield fell through.
Since his last bout, the three-division champion has had several issues both inside and outside of the ring that have led to his protracted time on the sidelines, but of late, talk of his return in 2027 has been ramping up.
