Conor Benn has looked back on his recent win against Regis Prograis.
Benn stepped into the ring for the first time this year when he took on the former two-weight world champion. Last year he initially lost to and then beat his generational rival Chris Eubank Jr up at 160lbs, although many believe Eubank was struggling and was weight drained for the second contest.
Either way, the rematch win marked the best of Benn’s career and he immediately vowed to move back down to his more natural 147 division, but first he signed a one-fight deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing and took a fight with Prograis at 150lbs, who has twice been to the UK before and lost both times, first to Josh Taylor and then to Jack Catterall.
Speaking to Ring Magazine, Benn was asked what he made of his victory over Prograis.
“Yeah, listen, it was just one of them fights. It was a keep active fight, first fight back at 150 in four years and preparing for a southpaw on six weeks’ notice. It made the fight what it was, it was a run out, done what I need to do, got some rounds in, I feel great at 150, and now I need to drop down to 147.”
Some have suggested that Benn struggled to make a real dent in Prograis despite the American being some years past his best. Prograis announced his retirement immediately after the contest while Benn has been calling out Ryan Garcia as he pursues his maiden world title shot.
