Kristian Prenga’s unexpected performance over the weekend could well see him become a regular contender in the heavyweight division.

Prenga is a 31-year-old Albanian who has now lost two of his 20 bouts. He was an unknown name in the heavyweight division before Anthony Joshua’s team picked him as their comeback opponent this past Saturday, but now he is known around the world for what he managed to do in the first round.

Rather than offering little to no resistance to Joshua as was expected, he knocked him down twice in the first round of what was meant to be a tune-up before the former unified world champion gets in the ring with Tyson Fury later this year.

Despite the fast start, Prenga was unable to capitalise in the second round and was instead knocked down with a fast combination and was left unable to beat the count.

Joshua will now go on to fight Fury some time later this year, with November the most likely date for the all-British clash.

Prenga’s stock has risen in defeat, however, as British heavyweight favourite Dave Allen has admitted in a new post on his own TikTok that he would love to fight him once his next contest is out of the way.

“I would be very happy to box Carty and, with a win, I’ll box Prenga, yeah. Carty then Prenga, what about that?”

Allen fights Thomas Carty on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s final fight at Croke Park on September 5 and has said that if he loses, he will retire from the sport.
