British heavyweight Frazer Clarke has had his say on Daniel Dubois’ brutal stoppage win over Fabio Wardley.
Dubois became a two-time world heavyweight champion as he dethroned Wardley of the WBO title at a sold-out Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester.
The 28-year-old from London was knocked down twice early in the bout, the first coming inside the opening ten seconds of the first round after he was caught with a clubbing right hand.
Dubois showed outstanding resilience, however, hurting Wardley on multiple occasions before he eventually stopped him in the penultimate round of their clash to return to the pinnacle of the heavyweight division once again.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Wardley’s former rival Frazer Clarke had his say on the action – what he described as exactly what the fans in attendance wanted to see.
“Well done Daniel Dubois. Fabio Wardley, absolute warrior. It wasn’t the most skilled heavyweight fight I’ve ever seen but it was just what the fans wanted to see. The fans wanted that, it was blood and guts, but well done Daniel Dubois.”
It has been argued that the fight should have been stopped earlier, with many questioning the decision of Wardley’s team to allow the bout to continue into the 11th round.
Promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that there is a rematch clause in place, meaning fans could be treated to yet another entertaining battle should Wardley enforce it, however many are calling him for him to take some serious time off.
