Daniel Dubois vs Kyotaro Fujimoto: Londoner claims another victim

It’s a predictably early finish for Daniel Dubois vs Kyotaro Fujimoto in London

It’s a tricky task matching unbeaten Greenwich heavyweight Daniel Dubois. Just 22 years old, the 6ft 5in behemoth seemingly has all the tools and is the current British and Commonwealth champion. He is also WBO No. 5 and IBF No. 12 but the one key thing "Dynamite" lacks is experience and once the Peacock Gym fighter, 13-0 (12) coming into his headline appearance on Feank Warren’s Copper Box Arena show tonight, competes at world level, it will be hard to go back.

That leaves Warren and his team with something of a dilemma despite the promoter’s public desire to get Dubois a world title shot by the end of next year. They must get the heavy hitter rounds, keep him busy and expose him to a variety of styles without seriously risking him getting beat before that marquee opportunity. We suggested some potential opponents for this role, but it’s no easy task.

The latest opponent to fill this void was Kyotaro Fujimoto of Japan, a real gentleman who helped sell the fight but a much smaller man and not a serious banger who had lost in his only (minor) step up.

Dubois dictated in the opener as Fujimoto fought to survive, absorbing the Londoner’s excellent jabs. Anotger superb lead dropped the Japanese in the next. The first genuine right hand connected soon after then, with around a minute to go in that session, the second detonated to have Fujimoto flat on his back, looking shocked. He was given oxygen and ultimately regained his senses.

Dubois was patient and poised but still wiped out an opponent of this average level within two rounds. Back to that dilemma again.
