Daniel Dubois Gives Update On Fabio Wardley Rematch: “I’m Not Waiting For Anyone”

Daniel Dubois has been asked for an update on the proposed rematch with Fabio Wardley.

Dubois became a two-time world heavyweight champion back in April when he knocked Wardley out and relieved the Ipswich man of his WBO belt in what was his first defence of it.

Wardley had been promoted to champion following two late knockout wins over Justis Huni and then Joseph Parker, but he was unable to pull off the same trick against Dubois.

That is despite him starting to fight well and knocking Dubois down early on, but the Londoner rallied and established himself and began to land ever heavier shots which bloodied Wardley’s nose and began to close up his eyes.

It eventually led to the referee stepping in to stop the fight in round 11, with many fans protesting afterwards that the stoppage came a round or two late given the punishment Wardley was shipping, but he has since announced that he will be activating his rematch clause,

Speaking to talkSPORT, ‘DDD’ was asked about the rematch but he was noncommittal.

“Yeah, well, that’s what they’re talking about but I’m not going to wait on anyone. I’m going to get busy with that belt, defend that belt. I can’t wait to start improving, getting out there and maximising what we’ve done since I was a kid being taken to the gym with my dad. And now we’re here, so.”

For now it is still expected that the rematch with Wardley will be next for Dubois, in what will be another highly-anticipated showdown.
