A former undisputed world champion has slammed the credentials of Conor Benn in a sensational claim.

Benn made his much-anticipated return to the ring last weekend when he defeated two-time world super-lightweight champion Regis Prograis by unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

It was Benn’s first ring appearance since he got revenge over fierce domestic rival Chris Eubank Jr in their rematch last November, after he suffered the first defeat of his career to his countryman last April.

‘The Destroyer’ has been the subject of intense criticism following his performance against Prograis, with many questioning whether the 29-year-old is as accomplished as it has been previously suggested.

Former undisputed super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor, who actually defeated Prograis back in 2019, has recently spoken out and slammed Benn after his win over the now-retired American.

Speaking to Boxing News, Taylor admitted that he believes Benn is ‘not that good’ as he claims he doesn’t recognise the Brit as a ‘British level fighter’ in a shock statement.

“I wasn’t very impressed. I could have been a little bit more diplomatic on Twitter, but I just say it how I see it. I don’t mean any ill or any bad of him, but I just don’t get the hype with Conor Benn at all.

“I just don’t think he’s very good. I mean, he’s had two fights with Chris Eubank, but again, Chris Eubank ain’t that good either. But I just don’t think he’s that good.

“I don’t think he’s on British level, never mind world level. I know I’m sounding really, really critical and really harsh here, but I’m just being honest and just been saying it as I see it.”

Benn is expected to campaign at 147lbs going forward having made the move up to middleweight to face Eubank twice last year.

‘The Destroyer’ is now in line to challenge Ryan Garcia for the WBC world welterweight title next, with reports suggesting that the 29-year-old will clash with the American star later this year.
